Food Brigade Accounting System

Role & duration: Software Engineer / IT Consultant (December 2024) for Program Brigade Pangan, Kementerian Pertanian Indonesia.

Farmer groups (kelompok tani) participating in the Food Brigade Program needed a way to track and report their finances, tying program financing and food-security disbursement to accountable record-keeping. I designed and built a double-entry accounting platform for them: journal, ledger, trial balance, and financial reporting modules, in about a month.

What I Built

  • Double-entry accounting core: journal entries, general ledger, trial balance, and financial reporting, following standard double-entry bookkeeping principles.
  • Domain-first approach. Going in, I had zero accounting background. I spent the first week entirely on learning double-entry fundamentals (journals, ledgers, trial balance, and how they connect) before writing a line of the system itself. Building on a half-understood accounting model would have produced a schema that looked plausible but generated incorrect financial statements.

Impact

Shipped a working double-entry accounting system inside a one-month deadline, with the domain itself learned from scratch in that same window, giving Food Brigade farmer groups a structured way to record and report fund usage where none existed before.
